Our very own Rocky Blumhagen, former Siletz Bay board member, has created several fundraising shows for our festival through the years honoring Cole Porter, “A Party with Comden & Green,” “Oh, Those Gershwin Boys,” “It’s Better with a Baritone,” Irving Berlin, and now the music that made Frank Sinatra famous! Mr. Sinatra would have been 100 years old, December 12, 2015. Sinatra was once asked the secret to his success; he said, simply, three words: “Sing… good… songs.” The Sinatra show, “My Way,” was created by Summerwind Productions. The cast and crew come to the Oregon coast directly from the San Francisco Bay Area where they sold out performances at the Cinnabar Theater in Petaluma. The arrangements are jazz inspired and in this two-act show you’ll hear music from 56 songs woven into medleys, solos, duets, and quartets, with snappy dialogue moving the show along and telling some of the Frank Sinatra story.
A native Oregonian, Rocky lives much of the year in San Francisco and has had a vacation home in Salishan for over 20 years. Attached is a short review of the Sinatra show.
There is nothing more fun than a revue of well-known music when it hits the mark! And, there is no doubt that a strong ensemble is a key ingredient. But through the lens of a director, it is the leadership, energy and style that make revue magic happen … that elevate the experience, lifting it off the charts and into the hearts of an eager crowd. Rocky, the producers of this little gem were lucky to find that leader in you: a pro with such great energy who needs no roadmap around this material, knows his way around a song and can still “dish the dirt” with the rest of the company. Thank you for such a delightful, memorable evening – ol’ blue eyes would tip his fedora to you for this awesome salute to his songbook!
